Marriage proposal onboard Happy Sky
Mid-March, on her way from Mexico to Singapore, Happy Sky passed Siquijor, a small island in the Philippines and the residence of one of Happy Sky’s crew members. On request of this crew member Happy Sky slowed down in the bay of Siquijor so that he could propose to the love of his life who is living on the island as well. Other crew members assisted him in making a banner. The crew were not sure if she had been able to read the banner from the shore but the couple did get married last May! While the proposal was going on, the crew seized the opportunity to order local products via the groom’s family. Among the produce coming on board were a young goat for a delicious stew called Papaitan, native chickens for a real Chicken Adobo, fresh coconuts and moringa.
We wish the newlyweds a happy and prosperous marriage!
Four STS cranes delivered to Port of Savannah
Last June BigLift Baffin successfully delivered four more Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes to the Port of Savannah, GA, US. These cranes are the first of eight STS cranes for the new Ocean terminal. The remaining four will be delivered later this year.
The cranes, each weighing 1837 mt, are of impressive dimensions, with their 159*29*54 meters. All cranes were loaded at the Wison yard in Zhoushan, CN where they were constructed.
This delivery represents the fifth shipment of STS cranes to the Port of Savannah in the past four years. BigLift Baffin and her sister, BigLift Barentsz, previously transported a total of 14 oversized Konecranes ship-to-shore cranes to Savannah. These cranes were destined for the Garden city terminal of the port.
BigLift and Spliethoff open office in Copenhagen
One result of the synergy between Spliethoff and BigLift is that more and more representative offices worldwide are being integrated. After combining forces in USA, UK, China and Japan, a new office in Denmark did open in October in the greater Copenhagen area. The Denmark representative office is managed by Nicolai Stoltz Nielsen, who has returned to his native Denmark after an extended period of working overseas. Nicolai is very experienced and well-known in the market, as he was part of the Spliethoff and BigLift family for the past 10 years as a member of the Spliethoff-BigLift Houston office.
