13 shipments for the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project

BigLift Shipping has successfully completed a major transport assignment for the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project, involving a total of 13 shipments of large pinpiles from Korea to Taiwan.

Part of the Hai Long Project development was the transportation of 156 pinpiles to the marshalling port of Anping, a scope executed by BigLift under contract and in close collaboration with CDWE. Every pinpile measured 3.5 metres in diameter, with varying lengths and weights - the longest exceeding 94 metres and weighing approximately 482 metric tonnes.

In addition to the transportation, BigLift was responsible for the design and supply of the grillage which has to support the pinpiles during shipment. The company’s in-house engineering team developed a solution which manged to reducing port time and minimise seafastening work. The grillage was constructed and installed under BigLift’s supervision.

BigLift’s former Grand Old Lady, MV Happy Buccaneer, had carried out of the 10 shipments with 12 pinpiles each, in 2024. These voyages marked the vessel’s final operations before she retired after 40 years of service. The remaining three shipments were completed by MV Bloemgracht, the newest addition to the Spliethoff–BigLift fleet. BigLift worked closely with CDWE and delivered all cargo safely and on time to Anping, which concluded BigLift’s role in this phase of the project
