HTV Desk sets sail
Since the launch of its first Heavy Transport Vessel (HTV) in 2016, BigLift Shipping has seen a remarkable rise both in demand for HTV solutions and in-house expertise. To meet this growing demand, the HTV fleet will expand to six vessels by 2026. In tandem with this growth, BigLift has established a dedicated ‘HTV Desk’ – a strategic move to streamline operations and enhance service delivery in this specialised sector.
Launched at the end of 2024, the HTV Desk comprises a team of eight passionate project engineers and cargo superintendents. Their mission is clear: to focus exclusively on the HTV market, which is characterised by long-term projects, extended charters, and the unique demands of HTV vessels. This dedicated approach ensures meticulous project preparation and flawless execution.

During the planning phase, clients often require precise documentation tailored to their specifications. In the execution phase – particularly during long-term charters – ongoing support from both office and site teams is essential. The HTV Desk is designed to meet these needs head-on.
HTVs differ significantly from the heavy lift vessels in BigLift’s fleet. Most cargo is loaded using the Ro-Ro method, which demands detailed ballast plans to accommodate tidal variations and load transfers. Grillage and seafastening designs are developed in close collaboration with clients, placing high demands on deck structure and vessel integrity. With the HTV Desk and an expanded fleet, BigLift is well-positioned to transport entire modularised plants, from lighter pipe racks to heavy modules weighing up to 13,000 metric tonnes. The BigLift Baffin is already equipped with a DP2 system, enabling efficient offshore delivery of jackets, topsides, and monopiles. Her sister vessel, the BigLift Barentsz, will follow suit in 2026. Recent achievements include the Ro/Ro discharge of seven pipe racks in a single day (see pictures above) and the successful transport of a 7,000+ mt topside - see previous paragraph.
This dedicated team is steadily building expertise and experience, reinforcing BigLift’s position as a unique player in the heavy transport market. The fleet expansion will offer greater flexibility and broaden logistical capabilities, especially for large-scale projects.
With confidence in the future, BigLift looks forward to continuing to move mountains over oceans – together with its clients.
