Fits like a glove
In March of this year, m.v. Pijlgracht loaded a 70 metres Spray Tower column into her 71 metres long hold, to ship it from Korea to Indonesia. The vessel's hold fitted the cargo like a glove!
Hyundai Engineering contracted m.v. Pijlgracht for the shipment for their PT. Pertamina RDMP Refinery Project in Balikpapan, Indonesia. They appointed Deugro Korea as their preferred freight forwarding company. This shipment encountered some challenges: the lifting positions of the 480 mt heavy unit were restricted, the column measured 70*11*10 mtrs so its long length required an outreach of 30 metres outside the beam of the vessel, and the column had to be stowed below deck. The most suitable vessel for this cargo was one of the seven Spliethoff P-14 type vessels, operated by BigLift, with their 2 x 700 mt and 1 x 180 mt cranes, and Pijlgracht was awarded the job. The column was snugly placed in the hold and after an eight-day voyage from Yulchon to Balikpapan, the Spray Tower was safely discharged at the RDMP MOF-jetty.
